BLOWING RASPBERRIES AT SPAMMERS

My archives have been hit by spammers. OK, I'll admit they are "polite"; congratulating me on my content, blah blah and saying how interesting they find my site. Then they leave links to their own sites.

I tried ignoring them, but the hits are increasing. So, for the time being, I'm going to have to moderate the comments until things settle down.

Hopefully they'll get tired and will go after someone else.

*spreads super glue on the blog floor in hopes of tripping up spammers*

Sly, have you tried Askimet? It comes pre-installed on WordPress (the blog host I use) but it looks like you can download it for free. It stops every single spammer as they hit my blog. Actually, it trapped Leetie once, too, but you know Leetie; gawd only KNOWS what she was up to! ;)

Bugger. I mean AKISMET. This link is still good, though.

I have WordPress too (with comments wide open), but I dunno if it uses AKISMET or not. Most of the spam gets snared and held for moderation. A small portion of the spam gets posted, but because the comments' management function is so slick and easy to use for deletion, it hasn't yet annoyed me enough to tighten up access.

You can see the Akismet on your dashboard, in the manage tab. It's the last thing on the top of that page. Mine is always full of that congratulatory sp@m, and a lot of p0rn that I DO NOT understand at all!

WD - if you have a WP blog, it will use Akismet. Peri.. till you pointed out your typo, I've always pronounced it Askimet! It's also trapped MiK on occasion, but I'm not sure why..

I don't understand one word of what everyone is talking about, but I just wanted to say hi - since I'm here! :)
